I'm a media design student building a social app with no algorithm. Am I naive, or is this something people actually want?

meeting like-minded locals without algorithmic feeds

A no-algorithm local social app is a well-worn, brutally hard consumer play with a cold-start problem no solo student can solve; the idea is not naive, but building it as a product is.

✓ Clear, personally-felt pain point (algorithmic feeds vs. genuine local connection) that resonates with a broad audience✓ Mobile social apps have low technical barrier to a first version, so a solo dev can ship an MVP✓ Rising cultural appetite for 'no algorithm' / anti-doomscroll positioning gives a marketing hook

⚠ Classic cold-start / network-effect problem: value requires local density of users that a solo dev cannot manufacture⚠ Crowded graveyard of local-social and anti-algorithm apps; incumbents (Nextdoor, Meetup, Bumble BFF) already own the space⚠ No traction, no distribution, no monetization path — consumer social is the hardest category to bootstrap without a funded team
